The farmhouse is on a hill in Souvloto Mouri, near the village of Hamezi. It is the only excavated Minoan farmhouse that has an ellipsoidal shape.
It was most probably a large complex with later additions dating to about 2000BC. The buildings belong to two phases: early Minoan and Middle Minoan.
The rooms of the farmhouse developed around an atrium and communicated between them with openings. In the centre of the atrium a tank was collecting the rainwater. In the northern rooms, there was a domestic shrine with altar, hearth, and figurines. A staircase, still visible today was leading to the rooms of the upper floor.
During the excavation, archaeologists found storage vases, stone vessels, weaving equipment, grindstones, and sharpening stones.
