Gorges
Agion Panton Gorge

The gorge is near the area of Skopi, west of Sitia, and ends at the beach of Agioi Pantes, next to the monastery of Faneromeni. It is 3.5km long and crossing it is relatively easy.

The route is rich in vegetation, with plane trees that give shade in the summer and abundant water in the winter, from the small river of Skafidaras. At the exit of the gorge, the waters of the river form a wetland. The imposing rock formations that you encounter on the route are the result of erosion of the limestones. The impressive picture is complemented by the fossilised marine species of bivalvia (freshwater molluscs) and sea urchins.

The project is implemented through the Regional Development Fund of Crete
