Archaeological Museum of Sitia

The museum is in the city of Sitia and houses exhibits from the archaeological sites of the area. The permanent collection presents objects of art and everyday life covering a period of 4.000 years, from the Late Neolithic to the Late Roman period. The exhibition area is divided into four sections of representative excavation groups.

At the entrance hall, the first section presents a characteristic gold and ivory statuette from the Minoan city of Palekastro. The second section showcases numerous important findings from Kato Zakros like giant jars, decorated vases, miniature objects and linear A tablets. The third section presents findings from Geometric and Archaic funerary monuments. The museum’s collection is completed with objects from the Hellenistic and Roman periods from Xerokambos, Ziros and other local archaeological sites.

The project is implemented through the Regional Development Fund of Crete
