Archaeological site of Lassea

The archaeological site is 1.5km away from Kali Limenes.

It has been inhabited since Minoan times and was the seaport of Gortys during Roman times as evidenced by a pier and underwater findings. The coastal city of Lassea is mentioned in the acts of the Apostles during the period when the Apostle Paul visited Crete. The commercial activities of this ancient city are linked to the existence of copper deposits that were probably a key export product.

Excavations brought to light Minoan settlements and tombs as well as residences of the Hellenistic and Roman periods.

The project is implemented through the Regional Development Fund of Crete
