Archaeological site of Monastiraki

The archaeological site is located near the village of Monastiraki, on a hill within the valley of Amari, at the foot of Mount Kedros. There, a Minoan settlement has been unearthed dating to 2000 BC and was destroyed in 1700 BC.
Large storage rooms, a room of worship as well as rooms containing a large number of clay seals were revealed. The pottery found in Monastiraki has similarities with that of Phaistos, which suggests possible economic and commercial relations between the two settlements.

The project is implemented through the Regional Development Fund of Crete
