Archaeological site Tripiti

The archaeological site is located at a height of 135m, on the hill of Papouri Kalokambou, east of the exit of the gorge of Tripiti.

It is an archaeological site that includes a Minoan settlement, a Minoan tholos tomb, a Hellenistic and Roman settlement, and a Byzantine church dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

Excavations revealed the walls of a Minoan settlement that contained 36 rooms, with walls 2m high. The findings show that the inhabitants were engaged in livestock farming, agriculture, and navigation.

The project is implemented through the Regional Development Fund of Crete
