Beaches
Chiona

The beach is south of the Venetian fortress of Palekastro. Its name is associated with the trade of carob, which was produced in abundance in the area, and was stored in the chiones, the carob warehouses.

The easy access and the beach’s calm turquoise shallow waters make it a favourite for tourists. There is an important wetland formed in winter with seawater and groundwater.

Nearby, there are taverns that cater to visitors.

The project is implemented through the Regional Development Fund of Crete
