Church Of Agios Georgios and Agios Ioannis Theologos Voila

The church is in the abandoned village of Voila, north of the village of Handras.

It is a two-aisled church dedicated to both Saint George and Saint John, and it was built in successive phases. The south aisle was originally a single-nave church, to which later was added the north aisle and a funerary monument.

An arched cell (arcosolium) was formed on the south wall which in its drum bears a representation of the enthroned Virgin Mary together with the church owners. From the inscriptions we learn that it is a family tomb of Georgios Salomon who died in 1518 and other members of his family. Notable is the small painting that accompanies the tomb with a representation of a woman on a deathbed surrounded by mourners.

The project is implemented through the Regional Development Fund of Crete
