Church Of Agios Georgios Piskokefalos

The church is in the village of Piskokefalo, where the mansion of the Kornaros family still stands. The 16th century epic poet Vincenzo Kornaros lived here. He wrote Erotokritos, a 10.000-verse poem that is considered the most important piece of Greek literature of the Venetian period.

The dating of the single-aisled vaulted church remains unclear, although the church bears the coat of arms of the Kornaros family. The church was repaired in 1862 but the belltower is more recent. You can access the temple from a balcony, through a staircase and not from the entrance of the ground floor.

The project is implemented through the Regional Development Fund of Crete
