Church of Panagia in Fodele
The church is in the village of Fodele, within fruit-bearing orchards, 29km away from Heraklion. It is a small one-aisled church, built on the spot of an older three-aisled basilica, and is dedicated to the presentation of the Virgin Mary.
It is decorated with wall paintings dating to the 11th and 14th century. In the western part, the decorations of the 11th century depict saints. Their art shows influence from the workshops of Constantinople. In the southern part, the 14th century wall paintings depict scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary, and their art reflects a local workshop
