This church is inside the village of Loutro and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary as a Life-giving spring (Zoodochos Pigi).
An inscription explains that a meeting of the people of Sfakia took place in the church on the 15th of April and 21st of May 1821. During the meetings, the founding of the Chancery of Sfakia was decided. The chancery was the seat of the Revolutionaries and aimed to reinforce the rebels in the fight against the Ottomans with munitions and establish a hospital for the wounded.
