Church Of Panagia Kera

The church is in an area full of olive trees in Amari, near the village of Chromonastiri, 11km from Rethymno.
It is a three-aisled church of the 15th century that was built on an older cruciform church with a 13th century dome. From this early church only parts of the chancel and a few wall paintings of the dormition of the Virgin Mary and the assumption remain. An important feature of the history of the monument is the built-in coat of arms of the Kallergis family, who were prominent in the 14th century.
There is a continuous flow of water on the site and a nearby chapel with holy water. Therefore the church is dedicated to the Life-Giving fountain (Zoodochos Pigi).

The project is implemented through the Regional Development Fund of Crete
