Gorges
Hohlakies Gorge

The gorge is near the village of Hohlakies and its exit is at Karoumes beach. It is 1.5km long and has a small altitude difference of about 50m.

The route is relatively easy but cross it after April when the large flow of water stops. Crossing this gorge is particularly charming because of its rich flora and impressive geological formations. Rare and endemic plants grow in the riverbed, in the rocks and in the small marsh at the gorge’s exit. The rocks with the caves on either side of the slopes of the gorge are home to species of birds of prey.

The project is implemented through the Regional Development Fund of Crete
