Karstic area of Amoutsera

Amoutsera is in the heart of the White Mountains, on the path that leads towards Katsiveli plateau. It is a big area at the northern end of a glacial valley, created by the constant karstic weathering that resulted in a series of land formations. There are small “dolines”, black dolomite erosion towers created by alluvial deposits, karstic footwalls, karrens, potholes, sinkholes, rock faces, towers, and remains of stalactite columns.
The landscape of this mountainous desert is characterised by the diversity of the rocks: there are black dolomites, white limestones, and dolomite marbles.

The project is implemented through the Regional Development Fund of Crete
