Monastery of Agia Irini

The monastery is located to the east of Psiloritis and west of Krousonas, 25km away from Heraklion.
The monastery is mentioned in a 16th century document, and in the 17th century it was owned by the prominent Venetian Mudazzo family. It was destroyed during the Ottoman occupation. In 1944 the monastery reopened and is now a nunnery. Its main church is two-aisled and is dedicated to Saint Irene and the Dormition of the Virgin Mary.

The project is implemented through the Regional Development Fund of Crete
