Towers – Fortresses - Mansions
Monte Forte fort

The fortress is in a fortified position in the village of Kria and controls the surrounding area.

Its dating remains unclear; during the earthquake of 1303 it suffered significant damage which was repaired later. The fortress was used by rebels of the 13th century movements against the Venetians and later by the Venetians themselves, in an effort to control the area. It was not used during Ottoman times and was thus deserted.

Today are only preserved parts of the fortification with its ramparts, a cistern and the small church of Agios Georgios.

The project is implemented through the Regional Development Fund of Crete
