The forest is located above 1200m, near the village of Kouroutes, between the steep western slopes of Psiloritis and the valley of Amari. It is considered one of the most beautiful and oldest kermes oak forests of Crete. It also has plane trees, pines, cypresses, evergreen oaks, and maples.
You can reach the forest easily via the road that leads to the shelter of Toumbotos Prinos. There is a great festival on the 25th of August, at the small church of Agios Titos, which is built on ruins of an older church.
