Churches - Monasteries
Tris Eklisies (Three churches)

These are three small Byzantine churches in the village of Tris Eklisies that is named after them.

The churches were founded around the same period. They date to the 14th century, but according to archaeological research they are built on top of early Christian basilicas.

The church next to the beach is dedicated to the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, and traces of the earlier basilica are visible around it.

Nearby is the church of Agios Georgios whose wall decorations are partially preserved.

The third church of Afendis Christos lies at the entrance of the village. It is dedicated to the Transfiguration of the Saviour and has wall paintings that are covered today. Outside the church, you can see remnants of the previous early Christian church.

The project is implemented through the Regional Development Fund of Crete
