Towers – Fortresses - Mansions
Voila Tower

The tower is in the abandoned village of Pyrgos, near the plateau of Handras and Ziros.

In addition to the tower, the village preserves monuments from the Venetian and Ottoman periods, like the church of Tzinalis, the Islamised Venetian ruler, the church of Agios Georgios, and many fountains.

According to an Ottoman inscription, the tower was built in the 18th century, and related to the Islamised Tzinalis of the Venetian family of Zenos. The settlement was abandoned in the 19th century. There is an interesting decorated entrance located on the ground floor.

The project is implemented through the Regional Development Fund of Crete
