Plateaus – other geotopes
Voulismeno Aloni

The name of the place means “sunken threshing floor” in the local dialect, and it is a crater. It is however not a threshing floor but a doline, a geological formation that resulted from the gradual erosion of the carbonate rocks of the Tripoli type.
The erosion was created by underground waters that contributed to the thinning of the roof of an underground cave that eventually collapsed, creating a crater 90 to 95m long and 15 to 38m deep.
The space is accessible to visitors. On the surfaces of the crater there are 12 climbing routes of varying difficulty, making it a popular climbing destination.

The project is implemented through the Regional Development Fund of Crete
