Church of Osia Maria of Egypt

The church is inside the abandoned village of Samaria, within the Samaria gorge. It is believed that the small church of Osia Maria paraphrased as Samaria, gave its name to the gorge.
The wall paintings of the church are from the 14th century. It is a plain, barrel-vaulted single nave building without decorative elements. The wall paintings are not well preserved, but we can distinguish representations from the life of Christ, some saints as well as Saint Zosimas, giving the Holy Communion to Saint Maria in the desert.

The project is implemented through the Regional Development Fund of Crete
