Gious Kampos is located between Spili and Gerkari. It is a plateau consisting of clayey rocks of Vatos with scattered limestone rocks of the Pindos and Tripoli type.
These clayey rocks allow a small stream flow almost all year round. The topography in combination with the rocks favour the development of the endemic red tulip of Crete (Tulipa doerfleri), as well as different orchid species. Due to the rarity and variety of flora, Gious Kambos is an important botanical destination.
