Church Of Agios Ioannis Theologos at Mesa Mouliana

The church is in the village of Mesa Mouliana to the west of the Geopark of Sitia.

Due to the many building phases the dating of the temple remains unclear. The first church was dedicated to Saint John the Theologian and probably dates to the middle Byzantine period. Then the church became three-aisled, and the two new aisles were dedicated to the Virgin Mary and the Holy Trinity. A new addition during the Venetian occupation, was the south aisle dedicated to Agios Charalambos. The north aisle and the extension of the west aisles was added in the 19th century.

Parts of the wall paintings are preserved in the chancel and depict hierarchs of the 14th century.

The project is implemented through the Regional Development Fund of Crete
