On the path from Kato Doxaro village to the monastery of Vossakos you can find different types of platy limestones. You can observe platy marbles, yellow Gigilos slates and white massive marbles within stromatolites. The platy marble formations are impressive due to the characteristic folds they create.
The folds of the Vossakos are the result of geological pressures exerted on the rocks 23 million years ago. For at least 1km, at the intersection of the road, you can see various folds, which make the site look like an outdoor geological exhibition!
