Church of Panagia of Thronos

The temple is in the village of Thronos in Amari, near the ancient city of Syvritos.
It is a 14th-century barrel vaulted church that was built on the site of a 4th-century basilica, during the period when Syvritos was an episcopate. The church probably belonged to the prominent Kallergis family, and a coat of arms exists above the entrance of the building.
Its wall paintings date to the 13th and 14th centuries and are considered excellent examples of local painting traditions, influenced by the art of the imperial Paleologian family in Constantinople.

The project is implemented through the Regional Development Fund of Crete
