Gorges
Ambas Gorge and Waterfall

The gorge is near the village of Paranymfι, on a plateau south of Asterousia, and ends at the beach of Tris Eklisies.

The gorge is known for its natural beauty and its waterfall, 145m high. In Ambas you can find many birds of prey and wild bees. According to the legends of the area, the gorge takes its name from a hermit or abbot (abas in Greek), who lived there.

Crossing the gorge is particularly demanding and is only for experienced and technically equipped canyoners. The total length is 4km and a team of experienced canyoners could complete the descent in about seven hours. Overall, it has 21 descents, with the biggest being 45m high. Avoid visiting during the winter months due to the breeding season of birds of prey.

The project is implemented through the Regional Development Fund of Crete
